This 'Game Of Thrones' Opening Credits Mashup With 'Super Mario World' Is Perfect [VIDEO]

Mushroom Kingdom Substitutes For the Known World in Game of Thrones' Opening Crawl

"Game of Thrones" is a hard thing to escape these days, and faced with the possibility that the man behind the works could keel over long before any of his characters do, fans are eager to figure out the fate of Westeros and its many inhabitants. The ever growing popularity of the TV show has attracted a wide variety of fans, which include some truly talented and creative folks, leading to some pretty interesting mashups. Today, we're looking at one such example that substitutes the show's opening crawl over Westeros and Essos for the Mushroom Kingdom of the SNES classic, Super Mario World.

The video below is the work of NicksplosionFX, and is one of many works that mixes Mortal Kombat with Double Dragon, The Legend of Zelda with Pac-Man, and even Street Fighter with Plants vs. Zombies, among others.

As the opening for the show is ever changing, this will have to be updated over time, but for now, it opens with the Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past as a stand in for the show's spinning astrolabe. From there, Yoshi's Island, Vanilla Fortress, Ludwig's Castle, and the waters surrounding the Sunken Ghost Ship and entrance to the Valley of Bowser standing in for King's Landing, Winterfell, the Wall, and the Narrow Sea respectively. And note the tongue slurping Yoshi in place of the fire spitting dragon, an especially nice touch. Check it out below!

This mashup actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Both Mario Bros. and "Game of Thrones" feature pint-size protagonists forever pining for a woman that's just out of reach (pun intended), forever the victim of a tyranical king. Of course, Tyrion is probably a bit jealous that Mario can actually grow by simply eating a mushroom, but as the old saying goes...
