Eric Chahi's groundbreaking platformer Another World (originally known as Out of This World in North America) is coming back in style. Transport yourself into improved resolutions, new backgrounds, trophies - and get ready for it to hit next week.

Perhaps the look of the game isn't as impressive anymore but in 1991 we simply hadn't seen anything like this before. Never had a game offered such smooth and realistic animation, such a cinematic experience. It was silent and let you experience the story in a way like never before and it still holds up as a remarkably effective game. There isn't a platformer made since that hasn't been influenced by it in some way.

Now it's hitting the PS4, PS3 and Vita next week! Previous versions have been released on the game's 15th and 20th Anniversary for Windows XP and iOS, respectively, but there hasn't been a major console release since... well, actually, since an authorized Atari Jaguar port hit last year. That apparently reminded them of how fun it was to play with a gamepad and prompted them to redo the 20th Anniversary edition for consoles.

"Since the original version, the re-editions have introduced a number of nice additions, like 256 colors backgrounds, up to 720p resolutions, more checkpoints and remastered sound effects," says Martial Hesse-Dréville, the game developer who helped Eric create this Edition, to the PS Blog. " This version now delivers a full HD experience. The game is rendered at a higher than displayed resolution to enable clean anti-aliased polygon edges. On PS4 that's a whopping 2560×1600 pixels! The backgrounds have been edited by Eric to a higher resolution and are now displayed in full color. The result is a noise-free, crisper, and more vibrant environment."

When the game was first released the resolution was 320×200 pixels, for comparison's sake. Anyone familiar with the game can immediately tell that it's never looked so smooth or pretty.

This version will hit on June 25 and support cross-buy, cross-save, and cross-platform trophies. That means that you can buy one version and be able to play it (and continue your save) across every current PlayStation console. Isn't it time you picked up a Vita?

Those of you with other consoles, fear not. Another World will be hitting Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS sometime this year. More as we hear it!
