Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Gets New Launch Trailer: 2K Games Starts The Final Countdown With A Wizard From The Moon

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Launches Tomorrow, And We Have The Trailer To Prove It

Tomorrow marks the launch of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, and to celebrate we have a launch trailer complete with explosions, one-liners and a soundtrack straight from the 80s.

Latest "Making Of" Video Talks Lasers And DLC In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!

The trailer shows Handsome Jack and the four player-controlled Vault Hunters blowing up various enemies while counting down to the game's launch, all to the sounds of "The Final Countdown" by Europe. Claptrap channels his inner Schwarzenegger from Batman & Robin and fires off some ice puns while the other three gunslingers tear through waves of generic baddies.

It's loud, quippy and filled with explosions. So it's most of what you'd expect from something bearing the Borderlands name.

Claptrap Skill Tree Highlighted In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! Video

In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! the player can play as four different Vault Hunters – each of whom having been introduced previously in the franchise, by the way – in the employ of Borderlands 2 antagonist Handsome Jack. Each character offers a very different playstyle. Wilhelm the Enforcer focuses on techno-warfare and uses AI robots and cybernetic enhancements to get through enemies. Nisha the Lawbringer allows players to fulfill latent Clint Eastwood fantasies by arming them with dual pistols and granting them accurate rapid-fire abilities. Athena the Gladiator lets melee-minded players run around and mow through enemies with a sword and shield. Finally, Claptrap the Fragtrap's strengths lie mostly in comic relief, though his seemingly random abilities make him a versatile character.

The pre-sequel is adding laser guns and low-gravity gameplay to the Borderlands formula. For series fans, it's looking like a strong addition to keep the franchise alive and well while Gearbox works on their hybrid FPS/MOBA Battleborn.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 14.
