Final Fantasy XIV Patch 2.5 Before The Fall Details; Producer Dishes On Forthcoming Three Part Update To MMO

For a lot of franchises, 2014 was kind of a downer. Titans fell beneath the weight of hype, glitches and poor planning. There were few truly ‘feel good’ success stories from either Microsoft or Sony, but there was one game that was having a truly banner year: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

The game began as Final Fantasy XIV, an MMO using familiar FF tropes that was unloved and later shut down, only to re-emerge like Phoenix and create a memorable, immersive and fun game that has been consistently updated and reimagined every step of the way. They even had three giant and successful festivals across the world just celebrating this one game.

The production team over at Square Enix is not content to rest on their laurels. They already have some big plans in the works for 2015, including the game’s first expansion, Heavensward. Before players take to the frozen north, however, the board must be set. Enter patch 2.5, titled ‘Before the Fall’.

In today’s blog post update, producer Yoshi-P delves into some detail regarding the forthcoming patch. Namely, that it will be broken up into three parts spread out over the beginning of the year. The first third of Fall will hit servers later this month. “ The patch will include roughly two-thirds of the final main scenario quests, three new dungeons, and the conclusion of the Crystal Tower questline and the World of Darkness.” And everyone’s favorite agent extraordinaire, Hildibrand will be back for what may be his final adventure. Players will also be able to take the fight to Odin, new gear, craftables and a lot more. Expect the patch notes to hit soon.

There will also be a minor update shortly afterwards, patch 2.51 that introduces the Manderville Gold Saucer event, a place to wine, dine and take bets on racing.

The second part of the patch will arrive in late March and will effectively end the chapter on the ‘Reborn’ part of the game. No mention of the third chapter, though that may be what Heavensward is. One door closes, another one opens.

It is a big and exciting year for fans of all things Final Fantasy. Not one but two new titles are being released, and A Realm Reborn is poised to make it big. We look forward to seeing what happens.
