'Gears of War 4' Coming To Windows 10 With Xbox One Cross-play, Cross-buy

"Gears of War" PC fans can rejoice, as they won't just have the remaster of the first game to look forward to. Microsoft announced at its E3 press conference that "Gears of War 4" will be coming to Windows 10.

Rod Ferguson, co-founder and head of "Gears of War 4" dev The Coalition, stepped up to announce that the game will share achievements across both Windows 10 and Xbox One. It will even allow for cross-platform multiplayer for the cooperative campaign, all multiplayer game modes and the new horde mode that "Gears of War 4" will feature.

In addition to these crossplay features, anyone who purchases "Gears of War 4" on either Windows 10 or Xbox One will receive copies of the game for both platforms.

Aside from these announcements, footage of the game was also shown, featuring about six minutes from the single-player campaign. Seen in the video were some of the new weapons that "Gears of War 4" will feature, such as a weapon that appears to shoot saw blades. Towards the end of the trailer, a much older and gray-bearded Marcus Fenix, protagonist of the previous games, was shown to still be alive.

"Gears of War 4" cross-buy feature is part of the brand-new Xbox Play Anywhere program, where participating titles can be bought on Xbox One or Windows 10 and get them for both platforms, as well as share achievements, save games, and other game data. Cross-buy for certain games was announced by Xbox chief Phil Spencer back in February, when buyers of "Quantum Break" on Xbox One received Windows 10 copies for free, but no details were revealed since then until this E3. Other Play Anywhere games include "Halo Wars 2," "Sea of Thieves," "Forza Horizon 3," "ReCore" and "State of Decay 2."

"Gears of War 4" is due to be released on October 11.
