'Dead or Alive 5: Last Round' Updates: Mai From 'The King of Fighters' Now A Playable Character [Watch Teaser]

Mai Shiranui from "The King of Fighters" series will be arriving on "Dead or Alive 5" later in 2016 as a playable character. Team Ninja announced the new crossover at the Dead or Alive Festival in Tokyo, Japan earlier in July.

Mai, the Knock-out Ninja, will become available as a playable fighter in "Dead or Alive 5: Last Round" in September 2016. The game developer will also provide three costumes based on some characters from "The King of Fighters" and "Art of Fighting" series in the same month.

The costumes for "Dead or Alive 5" will be inspired by Yuri Sakazaki, Hinako Shijou and Kasumi Todoh. A short trailer featured Mai in her signature sexy red outfit and wielding a fan.

Polygon stated that Mai initially surfaced in "Fatal Fury 2" in 1992, which is an SNK Neo Geo fighting game. Aside from "Dead or Alive 5," Mai will also appear as a playable character in the upcoming title "The King of Fighters 14" on PlayStation 4.

Fighters Generation wrote that before "Dead or Alive 5" Mai has appeared in several games through the years.

She is SNK's original curvy ninja female fighter, well known for her sex appeal, which is a big plus for "Dead or Alive 5."

She has also appeared in the manga, film and anime adaptations of the games, having played the lead role in some instances. Mai is deemed as one of the sexiest characters in the history of fighting games.

The new "Dead or Alive 5" character is the granddaughter of the ninjutsu master Hanzo Shiranui, and has the ability to make and harness fire. Her pyrokinetic traits allow her to cover herself in fire for protection and can control flame through her weapons, clothes and other items.

She can also trigger explosions, become airborne and change her clothes immediately.

Mai is an expert in stealth and climbing and mainly uses her Fire Butterfly Fans in battle. She is also good in hand-to-hand combat, relying on a variety of moves like the Flying Squirrel Dance and Deadly Ninja Bees. It is likely that many of the same attacks will be featured in "Dead or Alive 5."

The newest DLC that will arrive for "Dead or Alive 5" will be based on "Attack on Titan," which will arrive later in July. The package will include 30 new costumes and a new stage.

Mai will launch as paid DLC on "Dead or Alive 5" sometime in September 2016. The game is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

More updates and details on "Dead or Alive 5" are expected soon.
