Michael Harney took the role as a way to deal with the issues about mental illness and depression, the "Orange Is the New Black" Season 5 actor stated in the Yahoo TV interview. Harney added that the society right now is in a dark age when accepting and including people who have mental disorders. He also said that playing the role made him passionate in the way Harney did it on the screen.

The constant rambling of Lolly about the incident was proven true. It can be recalled that Sam Healy was forced to send Lolly to the psychiatric ward since he believed that they were just mere hallucination.
