Halo 4 Release Date: Microsoft Releases New David Fincher Produced Launch Trailer 'Scanned' (Watch It Now)

The scientists of the UNSC were on the edge of abandoning humanity. Moral responsibility faded, as myths became tangible reality. In the face of annihilations, self-preservation dictated the course of action. They took the children. They enhanced and augmented them to make them stronger and faster than previously thought. They called them Spartans.

Microsoft's new launch trailer for Halo 4 depicts the creation of John-117 and his Spartan brethren. The trailer is titled "Scanned" and offers gamers a brief look at the origins of series protagonist Master Chief, as well as the new enemies he will face in Halo 4. The trailer was filmed in Prague.

The most interesting thing about the trailer besides the new enemies is that gamers get to see humanity as a broken and desperate species willing to experiment on its own children. For Halo fans that have read some of the franchise's novels this story is nothing new, but for fans that have only played the games, it is a look at the darker side of the Spartan program.

The official Halo 4 launch trailer was produced by "Fight Club" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," director David Fincher and was directed by visual effects craftsman Tim Miller. The two-minute trailer debuted last night on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."

Halo 4 is intended to be the first of a new trilogy of Halo series games, named the "Reclaimer Trilogy," and the first to be developed by 343 Industries. Master Chief will return as the main protagonist, and the AI Cortana returns as well.

Halo development director Frank O'Connor has recently confirmed that the game is done and has been sent to Microsoft for certification. Halo 4 will release worldwide on Nov. 6 with the exclusion of Japan where the game will be released on Nov. 8. Read more about the Halo franchise here. Did you hear about the Halo 4 leak?
