Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Controversial Favela Map Returns on PlayStation 3

Activision has restored the previously removed and controversial Call of Duty: Modern Warfare map Favela. The map was removed earlier this month after complaints from a group of Muslim gamers.

A new 17 MB update on the PlayStation 3 version of the game has brought the map back to the first-person-shooter, but the Xbox 360 and PC versions have yet to see Favela return, the news was first reported by website MP1st.com.

Earlier this month, the map was removed when a gamer discovered that a picture frame in a bathroom displayed religious text. He contacted the game's developer Infinity ward and asked for an apology, as well was the removal of the content.

The game's publisher Activision did apologize and the content was removed. Now the offensive text is gone in the PlayStation 3 update and has been replaced with generic pictures that have been darkened hanging in the bathroom instead.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 video game consoles and the Microsoft Windows operating system. The game was released back on November 10, 2009 and has since spawned one sequel with another one planned but not yet announced.

The latest game in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops II will release on Nov. 13, for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows and on Nov. 18 for the upcoming Wii U.
