The remastered version of "The Last of Us" was recently launched, but players are already speculating on the release of "The Last of Us 2." There are rumors that "The Last of Us 2" may become available early in 2017, which means that Naughty Dog may have been working on the title for the past several months.
Chat Sports Net said that if "The Last of Us 2" actually releases early in 2017, the plot will most likely continue from the final events of the original game and will not be an entirely new story. Creative director Neil Druckmann previously announced that his team will be working on the "Uncharted 4" DLC before focusing on "The Last of Us 2." Considering how the original title was developed in three to four years, the sequel is expected to be finished within the same timeframe.
"The Last of Us" was deemed the best video game of the PlayStation 3 generation. Players greatly enjoyed the exciting and emotional storyline, engaging characters and challenges set in a zombie-infested post-apocalyptic world. In "The Last of Us," the main protagonist Joel ventured out to bring Ellie across the zombie-filled wasteland. They encounter fellow survivors and have to use their resourcefulness and wit to reach the end of their journey.
GameRant revealed that the ending was a cliffhanger, leading some to speculate that Ellie may kill Joel after she discovers the truth. She previously offered herself to be sacrificed to hopefully develop a cure for the spreading infection, to which she is immune. However, after a few changes in the plan, Joel ended up rescuing her, which she might not appreciate at all.
Other theories about "The Last of Us 2" is the inclusion of time travel and a darker tone. Druckmann hinted that one of his current projects feature time travel, prompting some to believe that it may be introduced in "The Last of Us 2."
Other rumors suggest that "The Last of Us 2" will not release until 2018 or 2019. The game is said to be exclusive for PlayStation 4, similar to its predecessor. More updates and details on "The Last of Us 2" are expected soon.
