Android 7.0 Nougat Release Details: Newest Features Include Multi-Window Support, More Emojis, Smarter Battery

It has recently been confirmed that the Android 7.0 Nougat is finally here. While it seems that Nougat has been around for quite some time already, rumors of a public release date have been going around recently, and they have been proven correct. The rumors stated that an Android N Update was released on August 22.

Expert Reviews reports that Google had already began rolling out Nougat via an Over the Air update last August 22, but that does not necessarily mean that all Android devices are set to get the update soon. Google is releasing the update to its Nexus handsets first like it had always done, which means that one has to wait if he owns a Sony, Samsung, HTC, Lenovo, Huawei, and others since compatibility issues must first be ironed out. However, Google has the tendency to prioritize flagship smartphones before releasing an update to more Android users.

New features for Nougat include Daydream, a new virtual reality platform for Android. This, however, will require phones with hardware that are Daydream ready. This means that these must meet the required criteria such as the correct sensors, a fast display, a powerful chipset and others.

Android N will also introduce seamless updates which will enable update installation in the background without disturbing the user experience. Of course, there are also a lot of bugs from the previous Android version which will be addressed in Nougat.

Android Googleblog also reports that Nougat gives its users a more personal experience by providing more ways to fit a user's personality. This includes emojis that have been expanded to 1,500 different ones, including 72 new ones, a revamped quick settings control, and multi-locale support wherein apps can tailor their content based on locale settings.

Nougat will also make a device more productive by offering features such as multi-window support wherein two apps can run side-by-side, Direct Reply, wherein a user can directly reply to notifications without having to open any app, and Quick Switch, wherein one can switch between two of the most recently used apps. They are also making the battery smarter where they revamped the Doze feature.
