Shigeru Miyamoto Talks Wii U's Future And Online Gaming

In a recent interview with GameMaster magazine reported via CVG, legendary video game creator Shigeru Miyamoto talked about his role within Nintendo and the future of Wii U.

"Of course the most important thing about the Wii U is how we can create the most attractive game machine," Miyamoto told GameMaster. "For that matter I'm satisfied with the outcome. However at the same time, I've personally been trying to make it so that the Wii U is going to become the machine that'll be cherished by the entire family."

Miyamoto says that making the console a family-orientated experience has been one of his long-term goals for many of years.

"Actually that's one of the themes that I've been challenging myself with for many years," Miyamoto said. "And at this point in time I'm very satisfied with the outcome as well as how it's going to create unique gaming experiences."

He also says that the future of gaming isn't necessarily just improving current versions of what is already available.

"Whenever we're working on a certain platform, as time goes by, everybody, including the game players, is looking forward to more improved versions of the existing software," Miyamoto said. "However, that's not only the direction that evolution should take. Whenever we can create a different format, unique gameplay should be another direction where game entertainment should head."

Miyamoto also addressed Nintendo's plans to recreate the entertainment and fun of playing video games locally with Wii U's broader online community.

"I'm always trying to remind myself and my staff members how important it is for us not to solely depend upon the kind of fun that stems out of competition," Miyamoto told GameMaster. "First and foremost, the games we are creating must be final, just final. We always have to make it a point that, even when you aren't competing with other players, the game itself must be fun to play."
