MLB 13: The Show Features: Sony Announces Changes To Diamond Dynasty Mode (Watch Dev Video Here)

MLB 13 The Show developer Sony San Diego introduced Diamond Dynasty in last year's MLB 12, and the studio is already upgrading the mode for this year edition.

In a post on the PlayStation blog, game designer Nick Livingston explained that the studio has incorporated fan feedback into the improvements that have gone into Diamond Dynasty in MLB 13 The Show.

"Tons of feedback from TheShowNation.com has driven us to expand, improve, and fine-tune the systems that make up Diamond Dynasty," Livingston wrote.

The Dynasty cards have changed will now display more information about the player's abilities and will also provided details about the player's potential to improve. Livingston also warns that each Dynasty Player has maximum thresholds that he can reach in each attribute.

One area where fan feedback helped to improve the game is that cards now distinguish between Starting Pitchers, Relievers, and Closers. This was something that last year's version was lacking.

Another change to the mode is the ability to use the designated hitter allowing players to choose whether they want to play by American or National League rules. This allows for some realistic strategy when creating your lineups.

Livingston also revealed that there would be more customizations in the mode for creating team uniforms.

"If you love customizing, the Logo Editor got a handful of new tricks and a boatload of new samples," Livingston wrote. "The Expand tool allows you to expand the borders of selected layers without skewing the core of the layers. This is perfect for quickly making borders, or altering fonts. Easily choose between MLB Team primary colors to exactly match your team with the team you love."

Diamond Dynasty will also feature the infamous mercy rule to give losing players an escape route without quitting.

"One issue we had last year was with players quitting," Livingston wrote. "We want you to know that all systems are now compatible with partial games. For example, any systems that earn you Budget for playing a game are displayed and resolved on a per inning basis."

He further explained, "We've made a number of efforts to encourage players to finish games without dropping out. For example, the Mercy Rule is in play (10 runs after three innings). Of course, someone is going to want to quit if they are getting obliterated. Now you just need to grin and bear it for a little while, and mercy will be had."
