Wolfenstein: The New Order: First Screens Arrive

We've seen some truly bizarre things from the Nazis in past Wolfenstein titles, courtesy of their occult Thule Society involvement: four armed razor throwing mutants, all matters of members of the Grösse family, and of course der Furher himself in a mech suit (Staatmeister for your SNES fans), and that's just the original 3D titles. New shots are up for the upcoming addition to the Wolfenstein family, The New Order, and it looks like Bethesda is opting out of all that crazy cult business, and is keeping the Nazi war machine focused on building various mechanic monsters instead.

DSOGaming was able to get the first peek at New Order since the game's recent announcement, posting pictures a reader decided to share with them. You can take a look at the pictures below.

This will be the first Wolfenstein title to not take place during WWII, opting instead for the 60's of an alternate timeline in which the Nazis emerged from the war victorious.

Players will again play as longtime Wolfenstein protagonist B.J. Blackowicz, set to infiltrate Nazi strongholds and "take control of super weapons the Nazis have used to take control of the Earth," according to GameSpot, who was awarded with exclusive coverage of the new game. Just another day at the office for Blackowicz, who's been the hero of the franchise for 6 out of 7 of the games thus far.

It's been 4 years since the most recent Wolfenstein title hit with modest praise, developed by Raven Sofware. This will be Bethesda's first go at the franchise since parent company ZeniMax purchased id Software in 2009.
