Guilty Gear Sequel To Use Unreal Engine [TRAILER]

Arc System Works announced at its 25 anniversary festival in Yokohama Japan on Monday a new entry and accompanying trailer for the Guilty Gear series entitled the difficult to pronounce Xrd Sign.

For the first time in the series, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign will use 3D models through use of Epic's Unreal Engine.

Epic's Unreal Engine has seen use in fighters such as NetherRealm Studios' Mortal Kombat and last month's Injustice: Gods Among Us.

The trailer, which debuted on Arc System Works' Youtube channel, showcased series mainstays Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske fighting with signature movies from previous games. Closing the trailer included a tease of characters Millia Rage and Eddie. Because of the 3D models, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign looks to have a variety of camera angles including one that swoops around both characters during super moves.

Daisuke Ishiwatari, Guilty Gear creator, will continue his role as game director. Though the game is currently slated for an arcade launch, no release date or console version was announced.

Guilty Gear saw its last original entry released for the Xbox 360 exclusive Guilty Gear 2: Overture. The game was a huge departure from Guilty Gear's 2D fighting roots and featured a mix of both real time strategy and action in full 3D. That game had a disappointing 55 Metacritic score. Sony's Playstation Vita received an updated of last year's Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R last month.

Arc System Works also released the opening movie to their upcoming visual novel game Xblaze Code: Embryo. Xblaze Code: Embryo is an "adventure project" and while details are slim at the moment, the game tells the story of main character Touya Kagari. Slated to be released for Sony's Playstation 3 and Vita in Japan on July 25, Xblaze Code: Embryo is a spin-off to the developer's BlazBlue series.

BlazBlue will hit the Playstation 3 in Japan in October through its arcade port of BlazBlue: Chronophantasma.
