‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Cancellation News: Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update; Trailer Officially Released; New Year 2017 Premiere Confirmed; Moriarty Coming Back?

The beloved "Sherlock" television show is set to make a comeback in 2017. While this is definitely a great news for all the fans, the new "Sherlock" Season 4 will also certainly cause tears as there is a huge possibility that it may be the last one.

The Long Wait is Over

One of the biggest delights for the show is that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be reprising their respective roles in the "Sherlock" Season 4 as the titular detective Sherlock Holmes and his partner in crime, Dr. John Watson. Fans have been craving for more "Sherlock" episodes now, as the last core season was released back in 2014.

Earlier this year though, the production team of "Sherlock" treated its fans with a special episode, titled "The Abominable Bride." Just recently though, the official trailer for "Sherlock" Season 4 had been released, and it is everything fans could hope for

Season 4 and the Future

The premiere episode of "Sherlock" Season 4 will be titled "The Six Thatchers." The episode will be airing on the New Year's Day of 2017. The premiere episode will be adopting a darker theme throughout.

The debut episode of "Sherlock" Season 4 will then open with an old footage showing Moriarty, portrayed by Andrew Scott. The footage will be similar to the ones shown at the ending of Season 3, with the villain asking the menacing question, "Did you miss me?"

As the dangerous villain has already been killed in an earlier episode, the return of Moriarty is clearly a looming theme. This premise will disturb Sherlock, as logic would dictate the impossibility of such a comeback. The second episode of "Sherlock" Season 4 will then be titled "The Lying Detective," with not clear plotline yet. The third episode is still undisclosed, and was said to be still under study when the producers last spoke about it.

The producers promised that the "Sherlock" Season 4 will certainly be worth the wait. It would also portray the darkest and most daring episodes in the show's whole run. Fans could also expect returning characters from previous episodes.

While all of these are good news, there have been rumors stating that "Sherlock" Season 4 will be the show's last one. It is yet to be officially confirmed if whether the beloved crime detective will be returning for a fifth one.
