Ubisoft working on racing Sim?

The Examiner has reported that Ubisoft could be heading into the racing sim world through The Crew

According to the article, The Crew will be developed by Ubisoft's Reflections Interactive (Driver: San Francisco) and a new French studio made up of former Eden Games (Test Drive Unlimited 2) employees named Ivory Tower. Ivory Tower's site also claims that staff worked on franchises including Need For Speed and V-Rally

The Crew is slated for release on Xbox One and Playstation 4 with the possibility of current-gen consoles. Microsoft's Forza and Sony's Gran Turismo  franchises are rumored to be Ubisoft's targets as it's been described as a "realistic title."

Gtplanet's forum revealed two unconfirmed renderings from the project of various racing spec Ford GTs that were released from a former Eden Games employee working at Ivory Tower.

GameSpot attempted to contact Ubisoft and was given this statement:

"Ubisoft does not comment on rumours or speculation."

This year is sounding like a good year for racing sims as both Sony and Microsoft are releasing new entries in its Forza and Gran Tourismo franchises. Sony made an announcement for PS3's(and possible PS4) Gran Tourismo 6 earlier this month for the series' 15 year anniversary at Silverstone in the UK. Evolution Studios will have DriveClub serve as the PS4's lead racing launch title.

The Xbox One reveal led Microsoft to announce that Forza 5 would be a launch title for its next-gen console. Not much has been revealed on the game outside of a teaser trailer showcasing two McLarens racing against each other in Prague.

Does Ubisoft have a chance against Microsoft and Sony's premier racing sims? What do you think?.
