PlayStation 4 to support PS3 wireless headsets

Sony has confirmed that the company will offer support for the wireless headsets for its current generation PlayStation 3 on the upcoming PlayStation 4, helping us all keep a few bucks in our pockets.

The information was revealed via a Sony rep to Polygon at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con. The compatibility for the wireless headsets that came alongside PS3 on the new PS4 is indeed quite a welcoming news for all those who are planning to invest on Sony’s next generation console later this year.

As of now, the PlayStation 4 console is scheduled to arrive with its own wired headset in the box, consisting of a simple mono device with simple earbuds. The new information is also in contrast with rival company Microsoft’s policies regarding the upcoming Xbox One.

Last month, Microsoft confirmed that no Xbox One headset would be included in the core system of the console as the system will instead stress on Kinect-driven voice inputs. However, Unlike the PS4, previous-generation headsets will not be compatible with Xbox One controllers as there is a new headset adapter port present already.

The PS4 console, normally, will feature a 500 GB hard drive (similar to Xbox One) with the console's internal architecture designed in such a way that it will keep the body as slim and light as possible. The PlayStation 4 includes two USB 3.0 ports on the front of the console, weighing 2.8 kg. The ports available on the back are power, HDMI out, optical audio out, AUX (for the PlayStation Eye) and Ethernet. However, similar or the Xbox One, the PS4 will not support video outputs other than HDMI.

The box comes with a console, one DualShock 4 controller, a mono earbud headset, a power cable, a USB cable and an HDMI cable. But according to the press release's list of PS4 box contents, the PlayStation Eye camera will not be included in the box and is sold separately for $59 in North America. Additional DualShock 4 controllers will cost $59 each.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is currently scheduled for a November release with a price tag of $399. Sony is already showing off the console during this week's highly anticipated San Diego Comic-Con, and is offering attendees the opportunity to experience hands-on action with the next-gen system. More information is expected about the console at the upcoming GamesCom.
