Facebook Latest News & Update: Instant Games Feature Is Out To Messenger; Another Waste Of Time?

Facebook seems to want users to spend more time using its Facebook messenger as it recently launched new Instant Games. It is now available to 30 countries with 17 games to choose from.

Facebook has found a way to turn boredom to fun with its new Instant Games feature added on its Facebook Messenger. There are 17 classic games to play including with the games developed by Bandai Namco, Konami, Taito, Zynga and King.

Instant Games in Facebook Messenger is using HTML5 gaming platform which allows users to play games on the messenger and Facebook News Feed. There is no need to download any special apps and it can be played on cross-platforms even if the users are using a PC, iOS or Android.

According to The Verge, it is not the first time Facebook offered games on its Facebook Messenger. To recall, Facebook hid a basketball game on its chat app and became a hit. It also added a soccer game which is a bit hard to earn a score. Today, the Instant Games offers "Pac-Man," "Galaga," "Space Invaders" and "Words with Friends" to mention a few.

Previously, Facebook has earned a lot in its desktop gaming app platform in 2008 but, it ended since the users have shifted using their mobile phones. Due to web standards limitation, Facebook with the help of the developers figured out on how to use HTML5 as a platform for games in Facebook Messenger. However, Instant Games in HTML5 can only provide games with simpler graphics like the "Pac-Man," TechCrunch reported.

Facebook will use the HTML5 to gain profits through game advertisements and cut off payments via in-game purchases on Facebook Messenger's Instant Games once it's established. The company saw the potential market when the basketball game was played 1.2 billion times.

Meanwhile, Instant Games on Facebook Messenger are still in closed Beta and the company is still making a strategy on how it can convince developers to create games for Facebook. Instant Games feature is not yet available to all, but soon if Facebook does complete its full release it will consume more of user's time than being productive.
