Call of Duty: Ghosts News - Patch Hits All Platforms, Legend of Zelda Easter Egg Found

Call of Duty: Ghosts Gets Patched, and Legend of Zelda Easter Egg Found in Fourth Campaign Mission

With both DICE's Battlefield 4 and Activision's Call of Duty: Ghosts both set for a next-gen release on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this month for North America and overseas, it's nice to know that the companies haven't forgotten about the fans playing the game on the current console wave.

Ghosts has received a small update for all platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. Nothing major, mostly some small issues like private match crashes have been taken care of. Here's an eensy, teensy, little list of patch notes courtesy of the Call of Duty forum:

- Improved operations functionality.
- UI Bug Fixes
- Fixed issue with splitscreen players rank.
- Fixed a rare crash with specific private match settings.

That aside, here's something a bit more interesting. Eagle eyed players have noticed a trophy case containing some neat pop culture references, the most notable being Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Reddit user plotcoupon discovered a smashed trophy case in the game's fourth campaign mission, "Struck Down." Upon closer inspection, he realized that the trophies are some pretty witty allusions that gamers and sci-fi fans alike will both enjoy. It's hard to see from the picture above, but from left to right, you'll see the T.A.R.D.I.S spaceship trophy from the Dr. Who series, a rupee trophy from The Legend of Zelda, and finally, another trophy that looks like a very odd mushroom cloud, referencing the paranoid concept that the world would end when 2012 came around.

Each trophy has a small inscription:

* T.A.R.D.I.S trophy - "Largest Interior With The Smallest Interior."
* Rupee trophy - "Most Bushes Cut And Pots Smashed."
* 2012 - "World Not Ending."

It's nice that the tradition of easter eggs is being continued with Call of Duty: Ghosts, giving players something else to search for in the game's brief campaign mode.

In the last CoD game, Black Ops II, easter eggs were numerous, what with being able to play Atari games in the Nuketown map, Thor's hammer Mjolnir tucked away in the campaign mission "Celerium," or the hidden songs in the zombie mode. So it stands to reason that there's certainly more hidden gags and easter eggs in Ghosts.

I wonder what else the game has to offer. Feel free to share anything you've found in the comments below.

Call of Duty: Ghosts takes place in a near future following an attack from space that leaves Los Angeles virtually wiped out, and the United States' infrastructure devastated. Years later, the country is invaded by a new superpower, a conglomerate of South American nations calling itself the "Federation." What's left of America's special forces have come together to form the titular "Ghosts," and it's up to them to wage guerrilla warfare against the Federation in order to protect what remains of the United States, and drive the Federation out.

Despite not the best reviews ever for a Call of Duty game, Ghosts was a hit right out of the gate, grabbing a billion dollars in sales in its first day of release.

Beyond the campaign, the game's multiplayer mode, which promises a slew of different customization options for weapons, character camos, and more. Over 30 new weapons are included alongside old favorites like the UMP45 and the M4A1.

Players are able to peek around cover while still being able to fire, automatically mantle objects, and customize their character. Players are also able to activate environmental hazards, rather than the hazards automatically activating without player interference. It will also allow players to do some hidden sub-missions which will result in new twists in the campaign storyline.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is out now for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and the Wii U. It will be available as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when the consoles release later this month.
