PlanetSide 2 Will Be a ‘Massively Multiplayer Halo for PlayStation 4’ Claims Sony

PlanetSide 2 on PS4 is Equivalent To a Massively Multiplayer Halo, Says Sony Boss

Sony’s upcoming free-to-play MMOFPS title PlanetSide 2 was have been developed for PC and recently for PlayStation 4, and has all the essential credentials to pass it on as a Halo title exclusively for the platform. Now, it seems like Sony has also agreed with the fact by tagging the game as a “massively multiplayer Halo for PlayStation 4.”

Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley was recently in an interview with IGN, where he talked about how PS gamers are soon to get their own version of Microsoft’s Halo franchise, and further plans related to the title.

“We believe that Planetside 2 is going to be the massively multiplayer Halo for PlayStation 4," said Smedley. "So we want to bring a completely new kind of gameplay to a completely new audience.”

Despite that the game will be available cross-platform, don't expect integration between PC and PS4. As IGN noted, "Planetside 2 will see more updates on PC more regularly than it will on PS4, as well, so don't expect cross-platform play." Similarly, the game also won't allow for character transfers between the two versions. Said Smedley, "We're not going to launch with that," according to Smedley. "There have been some discussions going on around it, but it's complicated."

However, the version of the game on the PS4 is hugely expected to arrive with a number of new features since the console’s revolutionary DualShock 4 controller is said to play a major part in it.

This was revealed only recently when executive producer Clint Worley, while talking about the differences between the game's PC version and the upcoming PS4 version, said: “Based on the PS4 hardware, we are targeting visuals that are on par with a high end PC gaming setup. PlanetSide 2 already looks amazing and being able to use all of the PS4 tech to crank up the details will really impress our players.”

“One of the core decisions we made up front was to have the PS4 and the PC versions be as close as possible so that all players receive the same experience. That means that new content, balance changes and bug fixes will be addressed on both platforms. We do plan to take advantage of the features that come with the PS4 to enhance the experience, such as the DualShock 4 peripheral,” Worley added at that time.

PlanetSide 2 is expected to arrive on PS4 sometime after the console launches, although an official release date has not yet been announced.
