‘Super Mario Run’ Latest News & Update: Nintendo Acknowledges ‘Super Mario Run’ Bug, Promises Fix In Future Update

Nintendo is working to fix a bug that has been causing its new and much-hyped mobile game, "Super Mario Run," to crash. "Super Mario Run" is the iconic Mario's first foray into mobile gaming and the first of Nintendo's mobile games to feature its first-party characters.

Shortly after its worldwide release for iOS on Thursday, Dec. 15, Nintendo acknowledged that a game-breaking bug had been found and that it affects both iPhones and iPads. The problem seems to occur when "Super Mario Run" players attempt to link their Facebook accounts to the game but don't have any Facebook friends who have also connected to the recently released mobile title.

In an in-game notification, Nintendo said that it is aware of the "Super Mario Run" bug and promised that it will soon have a fix. "The App may automatically shut down if it cannot friend candidates when you link Facebook to your friend list," the notification read. "This will not affect your saved game data and if you reboot the App, you will be able to play again. We are looking into a solution for a future update and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused in the meantime."

Though the "Super Mario Run" bug seems like a small one, it's good to know that Nintendo will be working on getting rid of it, and hopefully, the issue will no longer plague the wildly popular new game when it is released for Android devices at some point in 2017. "Super Mario Run" made waves at its release earlier this week. According to intelligence firm Apptopia, the side-scrolling auto-runner platformer was downloaded 2.85 million times on its first day, eclipsing the 900,000 first-day downloads "Pokemon GO" got in July. Analysts expect "Super Mario Run" to be downloaded a total of a billion times across operating systems.
