'Super Mario Run' Latest News & Update: For Almost 48 Hours The Game Has Been Downloaded Three Times More Than 'Pokemon Go' Debut

One of this year's most anticipated games, the "Super Mario Run" which is the first mobile game ever produced by Nintendo that debut last December 15, has already made history. The latest offering from Nintendo has surpassed the number of downloads of Naintic's location based and augmented reality game, "Pokemon Go" when it was released last July this year.

The "Super Mario Run" has been downloaded over 2.85 million times in almost 48 hours in the App Store of iOS devices. Apptopia reported that the "Super Mario Run" has been downloaded three times more than the 900,000 download of "Pokemon Go" during its initial release.

However, "Pokemon Go" became a sensation through various media platforms and word of mouth which escalated their 900,000 downloads to a 5.6 million downloads in just three days. One of the main reasons why "Super Mario Run" has higher downloads than "Pokemon Go" because it was released all over the world in the same day and has staged a lot of marketing and promotion before the launch.

Whereas, "Pokemon Go" was first released in New Zealand, Australia and the United States before it was deployed to the rest of the world. Nintendo initially projected that the "Super Mario Run" would profit up to $70 million for its first month of release according to WWG.

The "Super Mario Run" is a free to play download but players will have to pay $9.99 in order to gain full access to the game. There are still no specific numbers or details revealed on how many players have purchased the full access of the game.

The "Super Mario Run" is still not available in the Google Play Store or for Android mobile devices but it is expected to be as successful as the App Store release. Stay tuned for more latest about the "Super Mario Run" here on GameNGuide.
