Players of Overwatch will welcome the Year of the Tiger with a roar as the online multiplayer first-person team shooting game will have its Lunar New Year event, which will be filled with new cosmetics, including new Character Skins, weekly rewards, and new game modes.

However, the said event was welcomed with less fanfare as it offers few new cosmetics, especially for the game's most popular characters. However, Blizzard Entertainment, the developers of Overwatch, promised that they are working on other new content, including new Legendary Skins.

New Skins (and How to Get Them)

As mentioned earlier, Overwatch will offer a brand new set of cosmetics based after the Lunar New Year during their holiday-themed event. According to a post on the game's website, a total of five new Characters Skins will be released during the said event.

These include two Lunar New Year-inspired Legendary Skins for Mercy and Tracer. The former's Seolbim Skin, according to Dot Esports, will make the Support hero wear a pastel-toned seolbim, a traditional Korean hanbok that is usually worn during the holiday called Seollal.

The latter's Nezha Skin, on the other hand, will make the Damage hero don an outfit that is inspired by the lotus prince deity from the Chinese folk religion. The said set includes a pair of fiery gladiator sandals and a gold breastplate that was decorated with a lotus motif.

Aside from these two Legendary Skins, the Lunar New Year event will release three new Epic Character Skins.

The Prosperity Skin for Ashe and the Auspicious Skin for Soldier: 76 will make them don lucky colors of red and gold, while the Porcelain Skin for Wrecking Ball will make the hamster roll a porcelain ball decorated with blue designs and golden outlines.

In order to get the three Legendary Skins, players need to participate in either a Quick Play, a Competitive Play, or an Arcade Match within a certain week during the event.

Once they play a total of 27 Matches, they will receive the Properity Skin for Ashe during Week 1, the Auspicious Skin for Soldier: 76 during Week 2, and the Porcelain Skin for Wrecking Ball during Week 3.

Aside from these Epic Skins, they will also get new Player Icons and Sprays. The said Epic Skins and other new cosmetics will be available until Feb. 15.

Only Two?

When Blizzard Entertainment announced the release of the Seolbim and the Nezha Legendary Skins for Mercy and Tracer, respectively, for Overwatch's Lunar New Year event, several players of the shooting game noticed that the small number is unlikely from the developers, as they usually released at least five new Legendary Skins for an event.

However, according to Polygon, the company understands the feedback coming from them, adding that the team working for the event-exclusive Character Skins for Overwatch is working hard to release even more Skins planned for this year.

Andy Belford, the game's community manager, said in a Dexerto article that both Legendary Skins for Mercy and Tracer are a labor of love for the art team. Also, noticing the said skin shortage, he promised that they would be releasing other Skins aside from those made in time for this year's Overwatch League.

Other Added Elements

Aside from the new skins, the Lunar New Year event will also include three new game modes in Overwatch.

According to the same post on the game's website, the Bounty Hunter is one of the said three new game modes where players need to rack up points to claim their bounties. In this free-for-all game mode, the player who gets the first kill will become the "Target," while everyone will be the "Bounty Hunter."

Once they killed the "Target," the "Bounty Hunters" will earn extra points. However, they must need to be careful while exterminating them as landing a killing blow on them will make them the next "Target."

In Capture the Flag, on the other hand, a team of five will try to capture their opponent's flag and return it to their respective bases while preventing the opposing team from doing the same. In order to win the Match, players need to get at least three flags.

The said game mode has a Blitz version, where instead of three flags, they will need to capture six flags, which they can accomplish quickly by launching an all-out offensive.
