'Horizon Forbidden West' Metal Flowers Guide: How to Obtain the Vine Cutter to Break Them Open

In Horizon Forbidden West, players control Aloy in exploring the Forbidden West. This post-apocalyptic open-world area is full of secrets that lie beneath the ruins of the Old Ones.

As they venture toward the arcane frontier, they will encounter new regions ravaged by massive storms and deadly machines, new environments and ecosystems, and conflicts with tribes of nomadic raiders.

Along the way, they will encounter obstacles called Metal Flowers in several locations in the game. According to Push Square, these will restrict access to specific areas until they are destroyed.

Once they are in a specific area in Horizon Forbidden West, they will notice that part is marked as "Blocked Path" on their map.

How to Break Open the Metal Flowers

To break open these Metal Flowers and get access to the blocked area in Horizon Forbidden West, according to Gamesradar, they need to have a modification for Aloy's spear called the Vine Cutter

This will allow them to destroy any Metal Flowers that they can find in the game.

Getting the attachment, according to Shacknews, needs for them to clear one of the game's Main Quests, "Seeds of the Past."

In the Main Quest, according to PowerPyx.com, they will talk to Varl, that is waiting for them downstairs at the GAIA's base below the control room.

After talking to the non-playable character (NPC), they will head out towards the west to track down the DEMETER. Along the way, they can override the Tallneck in The Stand of the Sentinels to reveal several parts of the map.

Upon arriving at the area, they will be attacked by some Quen ambushers, including those in the camp and on the top of the roof of a building.

They need to defeat all enemies, including those on the roof by grappling onto it after double-tapping the X Button near the grapple point.

After defeating the Quen ambushers on top of the roof of the building, they will resume their search for DEMETER by zip-lining onto the next building.

Then, they will enter the building and proceed up the escalators. Then, they will head towards the Data Core Testing Facility.

Once they enter the facility, they will search the room until they see an open door on the left of the red flower.

From there, they will find a wall that they can use their Pullcaster on. After entering the room, they will look for an air vent to use their Pullcaster on again.

After entering the air vent, they will be inside another room to climb up to enter a door. Once they entered the room from the door, they needed to approach the green-lit console to activate the holographic projector.

Then, they need to exit the room by rappelling down, and then they will approach the enemy camp where they will eliminate the Strangers inside.

After they have cleared the camp, they will head towards the facility and meet Alva, who is open to helping them track down DEMETRIS.

After talking to her, they will search for a console and examine it open up a hatch. They will climb down the ladder then enter into the tunnels. They will need to keep going straight ahead until they get to the fork with the blue light.

Then, they need to crouch under the rust and ignite the Firegleam when they see it. In the next room, they will throw their Pullcaster at the hook in the wall to pull it down.

Then, they will enter a new tunnel and go right until they head past an ivy wall. They will keep going down until they climb up a ladder and open a hatch.

Upon exiting the hatch, they will continue through another tunnel outside to reach a wide, open area patrolled by Burrowers and a Clawstrider.

After engaging or evading them, they will head for the left side of the building with a big ELM sign on it. They will see a ladder that they can disengage to climb up the scaffolding and enter another facility.

Once they enter the facility, they need to parkour to the other end to find a hatch that they can pull off. Then they will crouch under and travel through an air vent until they can open its other end to enter the Test Station Elm.

Once they are inside, they need to jump onto the first floor and search for an air vent that is near one of the corners of the room.

They will pull it open, travel through it and blow up the wall using the Firegleam

Then, they will go to the opposite corner until they see a rack that they can pull towards them. Then, they will use the rack to enter the battery storage to grab the Maintenance Bypass Key.

Using the key, they need to interact with the key console in the room to a vault door nearby.

Once inside, they will grab the storage unit and pull it towards them until they let it go so Alva can jump on it and safely reach the console room.

Then, they will pull the storage unit again until it locks into place. They will wait for Alva to unlock the storage rack close to the hatch that they pulled open before. Once it is unlocked, they will pull the storage open and grab the energy cell.

Then, they need to travel back to where they detonate the Firegleam and enter the hole the blast created to search an energy cell port inside the room.

Once they see the port, they will insert the energy cell to restore the power of one of the doors.

Then, they will travel to the opposite end of the room using the storage unit until they reach the other console and activate it.

After activating the console, they will climb down the hatch that is in front of them until they see a new set of tunnels. They will go straight ahead, then turn right when they see the second fork.

They will keep running along the main path until they see a ladder that they can climb on to exit the Test Station Elm.

Once they are outside, they will make their way into the Proving Grounds using a door that leads them into a small pond. Then, they will reach the building with the white leaf sign on it.

As they travel towards the building, they will encounter a Dreading machine that they need to eliminate to continue their journey.

After beating it, they will run towards the building until they see a switch for the Test Station Ivy.

They will activate it to enter the greenhouse. Once they are inside, they need to operate the console in the second room to activate the holographic projector.

Then, they will pry a door open to enter another room. Inside, they will see a set of stairs that need to use to go up. Then they will open the next door.

Then, they need to climb the walls up until they enter the door above, then they will zip-line to the ground until they are back at the Quen camp that they encountered earlier.

Once they are in the camp, they will search for a workbench that they will use to craft the Vine Cutter. After finding it, they can start the modification by heading to the Special Gear menu and holding down the X Button to craft their new tool.

After crafting the tool, they can use the Vine Cutter to any Metal Flower that they will encounter in Horizon Forbidden West.

To use it, according to WCCFTech.com, they will press the R1 Button once the prompt appears.

They need to press the button three times in quick succession to forcibly open the Metal Flower before pressing the R1 Button for the fourth time to apply the override.

This will allow them to activate and burn away the vines surrounding the Metal Flower, making the patch clear for them to proceed.
