Remedy Partners With Rockstar In Remaking Max Payne 1 and 2

Remedy Entertainment published a press release on Wednesday and offered some information about the upcoming remake. According to the press release, Rockstar Games will be financing the project with the same budget as the rest of Remedy's major releases, such as Control, Alan Wake, and Quantum Break. They will also be utilizing the Northlight engine in developing the games. This is the same framework that they used in creating the aforementioned games. Remedy will also be receiving the royalties once Rockstar has made back its development costs.

Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser said, "We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games. We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can't wait to play these new versions."

Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala also released a statement about the collaboration on the Remedy website. "Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same," Virtala said. "We're hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways."

When Will Max Payne Remake Be Released?

Max Payne fans are surely rejoicing about this news. However, since it is still at its concept development stage, it may still take a while before the two games are actually released. There are currently no release dates at the moment. With the new engine, it is also possible that they will be developing these games for next-generation consoles.

There are also other projects in Remedy's pipeline. One of which is Alan Wake 2, as announced last year at The Games Awards. Remedy seems to have joined the remake train. Fans will be thrilled to experience the Bullet Time effects again using advanced graphics.

Max Payne celebrated its 20th-anniversary in 2021 with a video featuring James McCaffrey, the voice actor of Max Payne, and Sam Lake, the main writer of the game and whose image was the basis for the design for Payne himself.

Max Payne was first released in the summer of 2001 for PC. Six months later, it became available for PS2. In 2003, its sequel Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, was released. The games were then adapted into a film in 2008, starring Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne. In 2012, a third installation was released in 2012. The Max Payne game series is known for its Neo-noir style of storytelling. It also popularized the bullet-time gun fight effects, a style that was reminiscent of The Matrix. Since its release, it has sold more than 7.5 million copies.
