Brazil's Ninjas in Pyjamas showed the world what they're made of as they defeated Fnatic 2-0 in 2-0 in the 2022 VCT Masters Reykjavik second Group B opening match.

Ninjas in Pyjamas Dominated in Ascent Map

According to a report by Dot Esports, the map was Ascent, which was no problem for Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP). Early on in the first half, they successfully reclaimed the B site during an intense pistol fight. Three of NiP's members were killed in round two, but they still emerged the winner, despite their economy a little dwindling.  In the third round, Fnatic went all out in buying, but couldn't conquer the site and make a return on their investments.

Fnatic was severely damaged by NiP in round four, so much so that they had to take the first timeout of the series. But even after regrouping, they were still unable to take the site in the fifth round. In round six, NiP's bnj killed four enemies and conquered site A.

In round seven, Fnatic stepped up their game with an ingenious fake push into site A, thanks to Killjoy's lockdown. At the end of the round, Fnatic's H1ber aced the entire site, leading his team to win the round. It seemed that Fnatic was on a roll, as they won three consecutive rounds afterward.

However, NiP's John singlehandedly killed four enemies in round 10, securing site B. At the end of the first half, NiP still ended up as the winner, with a 9-3 scoreline.

In the second pistol round, NiP showed the upper hand, but Fnatic secured the site with only a few casualties. They also won the bonus round. NiP picked up the pace by winning round 15, but was thwarted by Fnatic in the next two rounds, narrowing the gap in their scores.

NiP reclaimed their lead in Round 18, with bnj securing the site after a one-vs-three bout. In the end, they won Ascent after winning the last three rounds.

Despite Fanatic's Resilience, NiP Still Emerged As Victors

The second map was Split, which seemed to play in Fnatic's favor when they won the pistol round. NiP still conquered the first half despite Fnatic's efforts, winning only four rounds on defense. NiP showed their technical skills, an example of which was xand using Raze's ultimate ability and securing a kill. Fnatic showed their resilience in round 12, where Fearoth almost failed in his use of Sage's resurrection but still managed to secure a kill.

NiP won the second pistol round, as well as the bonus round. It seemed that Fnatic was rising up again as they won rounds 15, 16, and 17. But NiP stopped them in their tracks at around 18. It ran to a match point by round 20, when NiP won a Thrify round. In the end, NiP's Jonn secured three kills, which ultimately led the Brazilian team to a sweet victory as the winners of Group B.

Ninjas in Pyjamas will advance to Group A's winner match where they will face DRX, according to a separate report by Dot Esports. Fnatic still has a fighting chance in the Group A elimination match against Zeta Division.
