The film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima has named its writer. According to a report by Deadline, Takashi Doscher will write the screenplay of the hit 2020's hit game.

Sci-Fi Director Takashi Doscheris Will Serve as 'Ghost of Tsushima' Movie's Screenwriter

Doscher is known for writing and directing sci-fi and fantasy films. In 2019, he directed the sci-fi romance Only starring Slumdog Millionaire's Frieda Pinto and Hamilton's Leslie Odom Jr.  He also directed the fantasy mystery Still, exclusively released on Hulu. He also co-directed the ESPN documentary A Fighting Chance.

The film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima will be directed by Chad Tahelski, the director of the John Wick movies. 87Eleven Entertainment's Alex Young and Jason Spitz will serve as the film's producers. PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures will oversee and distribute the project. There are still no details about the cast.

Ghost of the Tsushima will be the second film that will be produced by both Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions. The two production houses have both previously collaborated in the film adaptation of Uncharted, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.

The film adaptation is still in its early stages. According to a report by IGN, Stahelski said in December that he intends to take his time as they work on the film's treatment in order to "do it right."

They are also collaborating with the game's developer, Sucker Punch. Stahelski was inspired to create the film adaptation as he has been a fan of the game, and has played it several times. Stahelski has also a proven track record in directing martial arts and stunt movies, so having as director of the film is pleasantly apt.

Doscher Is An Avid PlayStation Gamer And a Fan of Kurosawa Films

Doscher himself is an avid PlayStation gamer. In his tweet, he describes the project as the "the highlight of [his] career." He recounted how he skipped school to line up for PS2 launch.

He also mentions watching re-runs of chambara movies with his grandparents, referring to the samurai and sword-fighting movies popularized by Akira Kurosawa. Incidentally, Ghost of Tsushima takes inspiration from Kurosawa films. Players even have the option to play the game in "Kurosawa mode" where the scenes are in black and white, as an homage to the legendary Japanese director.

Ghost was developed by Sucker Punch Productions and was released in 2020 for PlayStation 4 and 5. The game tells the story of Jin Sakai, a samurai warrior who fights to defeat the Mongols who have invaded his hometown, the island of Tsushima.

He must adopt a new way of fighting and give up his samurai ways in order to survive and save his people. The game was one of the best-reviewed titles in 2020, with critics praising its complex narratives and well-fleshed-out characters.

Ghost of Tsushima was also PS4's fastest-selling original IP debut. It was nominated for 7 awards at the Game Awards, where it won Best Art Direction. To date, the game has sold more than 6.7 million copies, which means that the film has a huge fanbase. There are no hints yet about the release date. But it seems that with this recent development, more and more details will be coming soon.
