LOOK: The Last Of Us Part 1 Showcases INSANE Visual Upgrades To Environments

Here's How The Environments Of The Last Of Us Part 1 Compare To The Original Game

Somebody on Reddit put up screenshots from The Last Of Us Part 1 and the original 2013 version of the game, all to see how the graphics of the old one holds up in terms of environmental detail. To say that it wasn't a competition is a massive understatement.

As reported by GameRant, redditor DavidClue3 posted a few comparison screenshots of the original The Last Of Us and The Last Of Us Part 1. The obvious time difference is massive (the first game came out nine years ago), and technology has been kind to Naughty Dog's title over the years (barring the remastered version for the PS4).

The post, which shows a total of six screenshots - one for each version of the game - has earned almost 2,000 upvotes at the time of this writing:

In the first image, we see a comparison of the flooded street with the Savage Starlight movie poster on the shed. The 2013 version already looked good even by modern standards (it was perhaps the best-looking game of the PS3 era), but it pales in comparison to the added detail to The Last Of Us Part 1's rendition of the same area. One might notice how realistic the reflections on the water are - likely the result of ray tracing on the PS5, but that one's not confirmed yet.

Next up is the university, where once again Naughty Dog was able to up the ante in terms of environmental detail. There's far more clutter on the ground, the shadows look way more realistic, and overall immersion is just on another level. The same thing goes for the last image, which is the bridge that predates Joel's attack on the Firefly hospital near the end of the game.

All of the images are obvious screenshots from the announcement trailer that finally confirmed the PS5 remake's existence. Here's the trailer if you want to check it out in its entirety:

The Last Of Us' PS5 remake is scheduled to launch for Sony's current-gen console on September 2nd, with the PC port arriving sometime later.

More Visual Upgrades For The Last Of Us On PS5

With far more powerful hardware at its disposal, the remade The Last Of Us on PS5 makes use of every single bit of tech to further improve on what the PS4 remaster can ever bring.

Here's a comparison between the trailers of The Last Of Us Part 1 and The Last Of Us Remastered, showing the huge jump in overall graphical fidelity - especially in the character models and lighting:

For the more eagle-eyed fans out there, you'll notice how the character models for everyone in the remaster were rebuilt from the ground up. They're basically now on-par with the fidelity of the character models in The Last Of Us Part 2 on the PS5. Looks like Naughty Dog squeezed every ounce of power they can get from Sony's console, and it shows.
