"Nioh 2" and "Rise of the Ronin to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty" PC ports are disappointing. Even with a high-end PC, some users said that they experienced lackluster visuals, bugs, and other game-breaking problems. However, things will change with "Nioh 3."
Early impressions about its free public demo appear to be encouraging, the opposite of its predecessor.
Smooth Gameplay on Mid-Range Hardware
After extensive testing of the "Nioh 3" PC demo, performance on a mid-range laptop proved solid. Equipped with an RTX 3060 (6GB VRAM), Ryzen 5 5600H, and 16GB RAM, the game runs mostly at 60 fps at 1080p on "very low" settings. PCGamer's Shaun Prescott tested it on his old rig.
Entering larger open-world areas caused occasional dips to 44 fps, but nothing that hindered gameplay. By comparison, previous Team Ninja PC releases were notorious for crashes and inconsistent framerates.
Frame Generation Boosts Performance
The demo also supports frame generation, which significantly improves smoothness on older hardware. With this option enabled, framerates remain consistent even during combat-heavy encounters, reducing the dips that typically plagued prior Team Ninja ports.
This makes "Nioh 3" the most optimized Team Ninja PC release to date, giving players confidence that the final launch could finally deliver a stable experience.
Visual Options and Settings
While the game looks best on higher-end GPUs, even low settings on a mid-range rig provide a playable experience with few visual compromises, according to Prescott. Anti-aliasing options, dynamic shadows, and texture quality can be adjusted to balance performance and fidelity, giving players flexibility depending on their system.
Early Verdict
Overall, the "Nioh 3" PC demo shows a promising leap forward for Team Ninja's PC development. Mid-range hardware runs the game smoothly, frame generation mitigates past issues, and open-world areas remain accessible without significant slowdowns.
