FaZe Clan Permanently KICKS Cented For Alleged Racial Slur

FaZe Clan Gets Rid Of Canadian Fortnite Pro After Racist Incident

An alleged racial slur in a game has prompted eSports establishment FaZe Clan to permanently remove Fortnite pro Evan "Cented" Barron from the roster, effective immediately.

As reported by Eurogamer, the ban was due to a clip of Cented using the N word surfacing online. It was a quick quip, but it was more than enough to get him booted from FaZe Clan - as it should. As per the organization, they've removed the player on the grounds that they "and the gaming community at large can't tolerate discriminatory language any longer."

Here is FaZe's tweet announcing the decision:

In response, Barron shared an apology on Twitter on the same day he got kicked out:

He followed it up with a longer apology, while also reiterating that he's "not racist, but chose to allow a racial word into my vocabulary. I should know better." He capped the statement by saying his "willful ignorance is inexcusable," and that the entire thing was completely preventable on his end.

Barron joined FaZe back in March 2021 and quickly made a name for himself as one of the best in the eSports organization's competitive roster. His arrival to the team was announced via a short video showcasing his Fortnite gameplay where his skills were in full swing.

His accomplishments as a member of FaZe Clan include placing 2nd in the Fortnite Champion Series C2S6 Trios back in May 2021. Aside from that, Barron has around 189K followers on Twitch, 314K followers on Twitter, and 48K followers on YouTube. He was also a six-time FNCS finalist with Team Liquid before joining FaZe.

He follows a few other former FaZe members who got kicked out for other inappropriate behaviors, which include a case of an alleged influencer cryptocurrency scam back in July of last year.

What Caused This?

Here is the video where Barron said the N word:

But according to a report by Dexerto, the circumstances that led to the situation were very controllable. Cented joined a chat where he used the racial slur while another player was streaming the game live. It is said he used the N word to greet a friend, but he was soon informed they were live on air - at a time when he probably knew his days as a FaZe Clan member were numbered.

As previously mentioned, however, FaZe itself has had multiple instances of racial slurs being perpetuated by the pro gamers on their rosters. Among this was the incident with another Fortnite pro, Daniel "Dubs" Walsh. He was suspended by the organization back in 2020 after doing essentially the same thing Cented did - use a racial slur on another player's stream. However, he wasn't kicked outright and was instead required to go through "sensitivity training" (via ESPN).

Another extremely controversial situation involved Sin, another Fortnite pro player who filmed himself on an apparent racist tirade. As a result of the incident, he had to delete his Twitter account (via Dexerto).

FaZe has some serious work to do if it's to clean up its ranks.
