Pro Wrestling-Inspired Battle Royale Rumbleverse Launches August 11th

Rumbleverse, Epic Games' New Fortnite-WWE Cross, Releases August 11th

Epic Games' new battle royale title Rumbleverse, which looks like a cross betwee Fortnite and Fall Guys with obvious inspiration from pro wrestling, now has an official release date.

Polygon reports that the free-to-play title will launch for current-gen and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC, on August 11th. The game was first revealed during last year's The Game Awards, and is helmed by the studio Iron Galaxy. The studio itself is led by Adam Boyes, who formerly worked at Sony Interactive Entertainment, and co-CEO Chelsea Blasky. Blasky's experience includes a stint at EA's Chicago studio.

Here is the game's launch date trailer, which showcases just how it looks and performs. It also reveals that a handful of streamers have already played the game, and they seem to be quite excited about it:

As you can see in the video, the streamers are enjoying the change in pace from merely shooting people from miles away to getting straight up in their opponents' faces - and smashing their face in. The gameplay looks like it's pure, unadulterated, no-holds-barred fun, which is something not a lot of games these days are even interested in.

Rumbleverse is Iron Galaxy's next big project after the Attack On Titan/Shadow Of The Colossus-like title called Extinction. That game was good enough to gain "Okay" reviews, as in this one by IGN:

Either way, Extinction was Iron Galaxy's first technically big hit and Blasky was looking for a new one. Then she said to Boyes one day, "we should do rasslin' (wrestling)" and Rumbleverse was born. Obviously, the game is also tapping into the success of its clear inspiration in Fortnite by being a free-to-play battle royale title.

If the game turns out to be as fun as the trailer makes it to be, then it has the potential to eclipse Extinction's market performance - and then some.

Everything We Know About Rumbleverse

The new battle royale title from Epic Games and Iron Galaxy is going to be accessible to everybody due to its cartoonish and free-to-play aspects. But that's not everything you need to know, so here are the other best bits about it.

While it does obviously takes cues from Fortnite, its scale will be anything but. Unlike the preeminent battle royale's concurrent player count of about 100 players in one game, Rumbleverse will only feature 40 players, writes IGN. It will also have a battle pass that will likely cost $10 for the standard version, mainly due to how it's being published by Epic.

Here's what studio co-CEO Adam Boyes has to say about the game, and it's safe to say he's pretty excited:

"Rumbleverse has been a passion project for us and a real testament to the skills and experience of our team. We can't wait to see everyone pour into Grapital City and discover the singular joy of suplexing a friend off a skyscraper."

If you're going to play it on PC, though, you have to be aware of the system requirements. Here's the kind of hardware you'd need to run Rumbleverse, as per Give Me Sport:

Minimum

Windows 10 OS, Intel Core i5-3470/AMD FX 8350, 6GB of RAM, 7GB of storage space, NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti 2GB/AMD HD 7990 2GB
