Fortnite: Here Are the Best Tips for Complete Beginners

Fortnite is a massively popular battle royale game known for its unique mechanics and fun gameplay. This is the first title to combine exciting gunplay with complex build mechanics to make things a lot more interesting.

While Fortnite is fun and enjoyable, the game can be too hard to handle for some people. If you are completely new to the game, read further! In this guide, you will learn some awesome tips to help you become a competent Fortnite player.

Warm Up on Spawn Island

When you enter a match that does not have a complete roster yet, you will be put in a place called Spawn Island. Here, you can see a variety of guns, ammo, and building materials lying around. The thing is, you can actually pick them up and use them until the matchmaking system fills the required 100-player lineup.

Use this time to warm up by testing out the different weapons you can get your hands on. You can fire at any player you can see in the area, though they won't take any damage from your attacks. Take advantage of this by landing some headshots. Do this every time you are on Spawn Island and your aim will improve dramatically over time.

Don't Jump Immediately

Once the game begins, you'll be boarding the infamous Battle Bus. The Battle Bus will fly to a set destination, but you can take off at any time. Most beginners would often jump too early and end up being killed just a few minutes into the match. The reason why this happens is that the vast majority of players jump as soon as the Battle Bus animation begins. This increases the likelihood that they will encounter overzealous opponents who are ready to eliminate them without hesitation.

To avoid experiencing the same fate, wait for at least five seconds before you head out. This gives you a higher chance of landing in a safe spot. When you land, go to any nearby structure to search for weapons and ammo. Doing this as quickly as you can will help you get the upper hand.

Change These Settings

Believe it or not, a lot of Fortnite players just hop on a match immediately upon entering the game without even looking at the settings. Sure, the game's settings menu is so daunting to look at due to the many things that are on there. But, tweaking certain parameters can actually improve quality of life.

For example, if you have the "Turbo Building" option enabled, just holding down the dedicated hotkey will automatically continue building the selected piece when you're looking around. This makes constructing ramps so much more convenient as you don't have to press the build button every so often!

Another setting that you should change is "Auto Confirm Edits." Setting it to "Edit" will confirm any build prompts when releasing the mouse button. This saves you a few clicks, which can mean life or death in certain situations.

In the Mouse and Keyboard section, make sure to turn on "Custom Diagonals." With this enabled, you can run sideways while building some fortifications like walls or ramps.

Learn How to 'Ramp Rush'

The primary objective of the game is to be the last one standing. As the group dwindles down to the top 10, you'll be facing even tougher competition. To help you get to higher ground for a better vantage point, you must learn what is known as "Ramp Rushing."

Ramp Rushing is a concept where you construct a series of ramps that are just high enough for you to take your opponents out. To do this, you simply continue building a ramp upward while you sprint and jump as fast as you can. You only stop doing this when you have a clear shot and enemies cannot shoot back at you.

The technique requires some time to master, but if you just do it diligently, you'll be a ramp rushing pro much sooner than you think!

Apply the tips mentioned above so that you'll be a cut above the rest, at least, when facing complete beginners.

Fortnite is available on Android, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
