Pokémon GO Upcoming ‘Timeless Travels’ Season Still Doesn’t Have a Biome Indicator

Pokémon GO developer Niantic Inc. has recently revealed what players can expect in the upcoming "Timeless Travels" season. Despite the new content, it seems that the company has no plans of adding an important feature that the community has been asking for in years.

Missing Key Feature

Pokémon GO is an augmented reality game where players can use their smartphones to capture Pokémon in the wild. The types of Pokémon one can get depend on the environment they are in. Those who are on the beach have a higher chance of coming across a Water Pokémon, for example. For years, players have been clamoring for a feature that tells them about their current biome so that they have an inkling of what Pokémon may appear while playing. Sadly, the community will have to wait longer because such a feature is not part of the upcoming "Timeless Travels" season, launching tomorrow, December 1.

Niantic has updated the game's website recently to provide a glimpse of what's to come in the new season. As usual, there is a list of new Pokémon that players can capture. Although new features have also been mentioned, a "biome indicator" is not one of them. As a result, players voiced their frustrations on Reddit for Niantic's continuous disregard of a highly sought-after feature.

Redditor @GodspeedKilliua is disappointed that Pokémon GO still doesn't tell players what biome they're currently in. They pointed out that a person can guess their current biome just by looking at the surroundings, but even this is not entirely accurate.

The frustrated Redditor mentioned another augmented reality game developed by Niantic called Monster Hunter Now. They said that in this game, there is a small box that indicates the player's current biome. Besides that, monsters that the players will encounter, all have different backgrounds on the fighting screen.

This baffled the Redditor because if the company was able to put those in one of its games, why hasn't Niantic put something similar in Pokémon GO?

If there is any hope regarding the matter, Redditor @Psychological_Sea_27 said that "unique map biomes and encounter backgrounds based on location" are coming to the game, based on a recent datamine.

Even though a biome indicator is certainly helpful in a game like Pokémon GO, some players say that the feature is not really needed at this point. As one Redditor pointed out, biomes don't really matter anymore since players can capture the same Pokémon everywhere they go.

New Season

So, what is in store for players in the upcoming "Time Travels" season? Well, players will have a chance to capture Pokémon that are native to the Hisui Region, including Samurott, Decidueye, and Typhlosion.

Aside from that, they can utilize a newly improved "Routes" feature that lets experienced veterans chart a course in their city for new players to follow.

Pokémon GO Timeless Travels launches on December 1 and will end on March 1, 2024.

Do you agree with other frustrated players that Niantic should add some sort of biome indicator soon or do you think that this feature is no longer needed in the game?
