Is Phasmophobia too dark for you? If so, you're probably going to be happy with the recent patch developer Kinetic Games has released. Update v0.9.4.0 is considered a minor patch but it brings a lot of major improvements, particularly to the game's overall lighting.
Lighting System Overhaul
The company has made huge improvements to the overall lighting in Phasmophobia. This is mainly to address concerns about the game just being too dark even in areas where there are ample sources of light.
Anyway, there are a couple of notable features that were added in Update v0.9.4.0. First is "Eye Adaption," which is a feature that allows your eyes to better adjust to the light or dark areas in Phasmophobia.
The second is Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI). Also known as "bounce lighting," SSGI improves the game's ambient lighting to make things more apparent. The company warns, however, that SSGI may reduce performance on PCs with old hardware. To resolve this, Kinetic Games has added three quality settings that you can choose from: low, medium, and high. Be sure to try all of them out to see which one works best for your PC.
On the topic of lighting, this patch also allows you to adjust the brightness slider in finer increments from 0% all the way to 250%.
Although the company has made things a lot brighter in Phasmophobia, Update v9.4.0 has removed all traces of the Holiday 2023 event. Hopefully, you were able to get everything that the said event had to offer.
