Starfield was supposed to receive a massive beta update on Steam today, January 17. This patch would have brought over 100 improvements and bug fixes to the game. However, developer Bethesda Game Studios found an issue that still needed to be fixed, which is why the company has officially delayed the release of this update until tomorrow.
What Happened?
According to Bethesda Game Studios, the developers found an issue that they wanted to address before releasing the update into Steam Beta. As to what this particular issue is, the company, sadly, did not disclose any specifics.
A lot of fans are eager to try the update out because it has been confirmed that it will resolve issues with multiple quests, such as Eye of the Storm and Power from Beyond. Not only that but this patch is going to implement a plethora of graphical improvements, including improved textures and lighting, as well as additional widescreen support.

New Release Date
Although the massive update was delayed, Starfield players do not have to wait that long for its release. In a follow-up tweet, the company said that the mysterious issue has been resolved and that the patch is expected to launch on Steam Beta tomorrow morning.
While the patch notes have not been revealed yet, the fans are hoping that the upcoming update will resolve most of the game's annoying bugs. User astrococoa shared on X/Twitter that they had experienced issues concerning a couple of quests, specifically "Missed Connections" and "Runaway."
Another user said that the Constellation Mission Board, ironically, no longer gives missions for them to complete.
User Spellkazta is hoping that the upcoming beta update will finally address the issue of constant crashing. They said that it is a frustrating experience because they have not been able to find any tangible solution to the problem.
At the moment, Starfield does not have features that would make it a robust space exploration game. As one user pointed out, the game does not have a survival mode, no space rover, and no space-building mechanics to speak of. Perhaps Bethesda Game Studios can learn a thing or two from another space-based RPG, No Man's Sky.
