Diablo IV Season 3, aka Season of the Construct, launched earlier this week. One of the highlights of the new season is the endgame content known as "Vaults," which players have to accomplish by evading the various traps contained inside.

Design Flaw

While the Diablo IV development team may have had a fun time designing the Vaults in Season of the Construct, they probably did not expect the negative reception players have with said content.

Disgruntled players took to Reddit to post about their experience of the game after Season 3 launched.

Redditor Anatole-Othala said that some of the traps inside Vaults are just too hard to evade, leaving them with little to no time to react. They added that the reward chests have increasing costs, which further exacerbates the consequence of getting hit by the traps. The mechanic is so bad that the frustrated player believes that no one from the development team has tested the mechanic before release.

Another Redditor opined that the reason why traps inside the Vaults are difficult to deal with is that the background and the dungeon layouts are horrible to navigate. "Nobody is saying that all developers should be pro gamers, but come on, at least play the damn game you made once or twice," they added.

Redditor Nealbur minced no words and shared that the traps are outright terrible. They said that whoever came up with the idea for this mechanic must "love their time [being] wasted."

A Step Backwards

Diablo IV had a rocky start. The developers bounced back in Season 2 (Season of the Blood) by providing players an avenue to get awesome powers to slay the minions of Hell. Then, the Season of the Construct happened. Although the idea of traps is great, its execution leaves a lot to be desired.

The bigger issue here is that the developers designed seasons to last at least a few months, meaning, players will have to contend with Vaults until Season 4 arrives sometime in Spring 2024.

It is also unlikely that any minor updates can rectify the issues players have with Vaults, particularly when the layout of the dungeon itself is one of the major problems of the said content.

Have you played Diablo IV's latest season? If so, do you think that minor patches can somehow make Season of the Construct better? Let us know in the comments!
