Songs of Silence Demo Out Ahead of Full Launch, Gives Players Intense, Real-Time, Card-Based Battles

Songs of Silence Brings a Unique Combat System to the RTS Genre

Songs of Silence is a new 4X game that is another contender for one of the top games in the RTS genre and gives players a chance to fight in intense, real-time, card-based battles.

The demo for the game is out now ahead of its full launch and showcases how it captures the spirit of other popular and classic titles, including Command and Conquer and Slay The Spire.

The game was able to hit its crowdfunding goal in only eight hours and put together a variety of aspects from other titles with colorful aesthetics and a soundtrack from Final Fantasy and Valkyria Chronicles veteran, Hitoshi Sakimoto.

Songs of Silence brings several twists into the genre and while its building and kingdom management are traditional in that they are turn-based, its battles are what makes it shine. The game's battles are swift and intense and are played in real-time with the player using a selection of cards, according to PCGamesN.

Players will have to cultivate their deck and play the right cards at the right moment in order to seize victory. However, they will have to be quick and decisive with their actions as wars in Songs of Silence typically last less than a minute in real-time. This battle style adds a reflexive, quick decision-making challenge to what most people are used to.

To mark the occasion of hitting its crowdfunding goal, the game's developer, Chimera Entertainment, has expanded and relaunched the initial demo that was previously available for players to try out. It featured an improved and revamped map, improvements in all aspects of gameplay, including opponent AI, and the Skirmish Mode being available right away.

The game takes place in two distinct fantasy worlds that are being threatened by the all-devouring Silence. Players will lead mighty armies that were conscripted from a roster of more than 100 units. They will have to explore stunning handmade campaigns as well as multiplayer maps.

A World of Fantasy

They need to outwit their enemies by laying deadly ambushes in the terrain or marching straight to the front gates and laying siege to their cities. Hard-won resources will have to be managed in order to rebuild a ravaged realm and grow your army to defeat rival kingdoms, said Gematsu.

Songs of Silence offers a fresh take on cards and instead of collecting and building a deck, the cards in the game represent unique actions that are granted by heroes and locations. Players then play these on the campaign map or during real-time battles to influence the outcome via troop orders, status effects, or direct damage.

The upcoming title's combat system seems to be emulating more the fairly recent auto battler genre by putting players into more of a planning role. They take control of their fantasy minions by making sure that they are in the correct spots before the start of each fight and are only able to influence the battles using their cards and their reserves.

While players will never be helpless spectators to their own defeat, they would also not be tackling micro in each fight, according to PCGamer.
