Nintendo just announced that Tetris 99 will be having its first Maximus Cup of 2024 which will feature a theme based on Princess Peach: Showtime! and will run from Apr. 5 to Apr. 8.

The tournament comes after a Tetris 99 update that came last month and will have players working to unlock a theme based on Nintendo's new title, including themed background art, music, and Tetrimino designs.

In its announcement post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Nintendo said that Tetris 99's 39th Maximum Cup will start on Apr. 5 at 12:00 a.m. PT and will end on Apr. 8 at 11:59 p.m. PT. The company added that after players accumulate a total of 100 event points, they will be able to unlock the new theme.

For those who have not yet been able to try out Princess Peach: Showtime!, the game has a demo that is currently available from the eShop. The title offers a fresh take on the Mushroom Kingdom's royalty in her first spinoff game in quite a while, according to Nintendo Life.

The latest Maximus Cup comes as Tetris 99 has been playable for more than five years now but the game still receives plenty of support from Nintendo. When the title does not receive any update, it receives themes that fans are able to unlock from the Maximus Cups.

During the duration of the event, any player who is a member of Nintendo Switch Online can play Tetris 99's online mode to earn points based on their placement in every match, said Nintendo Everything.

The theme for the latest Maximus Cup highlights Princess Peach's new game and shows off the Mushroom Kingdom royal in all her glory. The game itself is a fun little platformer that lets players transform Peach into a series of roles that each have different abilities and mechanics.

Theme Based on Princess Peach: Showtime!

Every single level in Princess Peach: Showtime! is designed around a specific transformation's gimmick. Additionally, the game does a spectacular job of making each of the roles that Princess Peach takes feel unique despite fans clearly favoring one over the others.

However, many players feel that Nintendo has a lot of room for improvement for the game, particularly a potential sequel or DLC for the base game. These could let the company take full advantage of and deliver even more interesting level designs based around a new set of transformations.

Princess Peach: Showtime! has 10 base transformations and one endgame transformation but leaves the door open for future content to introduce a new level of mechanics. The game also helps the Mushroom Kingdom royal grow into an identity of her own, which could be used for a potential DLC in the future.

The game's stage designs are probably one of the most noteworthy things that players experience because they bend the rules of a traditional platformer game. In particular, Detective Peach and Patissiere Peach shift the focus away from combat and instead center around puzzles or playing mini-games, according to GameRant.
