Friday the 13th the Game is Coming Back With a Resurrected Version Thanks to Fan-Made Build

The Friday the 13th game was previously delisted from Steam despite a growing playerbase and generally positive reviews and is now being revived with a Resurrected version.

The title is a multiplayer horror game that puts eight players together to take the roles of the Crystal Lake counselors while one person is the bloodthirsty Jason. What sets Friday the 13th apart from titles like Dead By Daylight is allowing the victims to stun or even kill their nemesis if they meet certain conditions.

By the time the original game was delisted from sale on Steam, with the page still on the platform, it received a "very positive" rating based on reviews that were considered recent at the time. However, the game's publisher, Gun Media, moved on to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and has chosen to close down servers for Friday the 13th in December this year.

However, a new fan project modifies the base game and provides fans with dedicated multiplayer servers that bring the classic title back from the dead. It will be completely free-to-play and a release date for Friday the 13th: Resurrected will be revealed on Friday, Apr. 15, 2024, according to PCGamesN.

Alongside the reveal of the revived version, a new trailer was also shown that features gameplay and footage of the game. On top of the servers, the team behind the Resurrected version also promised to introduce a series of exclusive fan-made content, including new characters and skins.

The life of Friday the 13th was plagued by legal disputes since it was released in 2017 due to the ownership of the iconic slasher horror franchise. These got so bad that the game's developer had to stop the development of new content in 2019 and later canceled it altogether in 2021.

Some of the new content that was planned to be added to the base game included a werewolf mode that was inspired by Inner Sloth's Among Us. Despite the revival of the game, the mod will naturally have limited access for those who did not buy the original game before it was delisted from Steam last December, said IGN.

Fan-Made Project Featuring New Content

The team behind the new project said that the modded build will initially be available for players on PC. But in a series of response tweets, they noted that a console version of the mod is something that they were looking into.

Fortunately for those who did not buy the base game, the team said that a download will be available in their discord server in the future. Some of the screenshots of the project showed that players can also customize their Jason to look unique and include several masks to choose from, according to Bloody Disgusting.

The new modded build comes as Friday the 13th was considered to be one of the best asymmetrical multiplayer games in the horror genre. It also comes during a good time as a Friday the 13th reboot was announced to be in development last year.

The original director of the franchise, Sean S. Cunningham is now working with writer Jeff Locker and director Jeremy Weiss to bring the project to life. The film could potentially renew interest in the franchise, said GameRant.
