Destiny 2 Update Will Bring Back Classic Missions, Add New PvP Maps

Destiny 2's latest update will bring back two classic missions and new PvP maps ahead of the shooter game's "The Final Shape expansion that will be coming this June.

These are two Exotic missions that were widely considered to be two of the best missions in the history of the series. They were both removed from Destiny 2 back in 2020 following the launch of the Beyond Light expansion. The developers have also promised that they have twisted some nobs and added new secrets to keep each mission fresh even for returning players.

The two returning missions were both considered secrets back in their day as they required a secretive questline or random public event to even gain access. Each also heralded the return of a beloved Exotic weapon from the original Destiny game, the Black Hammer from The Whisper, and the Outbreak Prime from Zero Hour, according to Polygon.

Based on the gameplay footage that was shown during the latest live stream where the return of the two missions was announced, they are seen to feature the same mix of platforming, combat, and a timer. The adjustments include having more enemies in each mission to keep up with the increase in power that Guardians have seen in the past few years.

The timers will also be much less restrictive for the missions' normal difficulty modes. But for players who are looking for a challenge, they can still go take on the missions' higher difficulty modes that will feature stronger enemies and a much tighter timeframe.

The rewards for the returning missions will include both Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected and will become craftable by the players. This is part of efforts to maintain the achievement of old-school players and also make way for new cosmetics.

New Content and Changes

The missions will also feature new chest locations, new secrets, and new surprises, which means that old guides and walkthroughs will no longer be able to help players. One example is that the first secret chest room in Whisper has been removed. The boss fight has also changed in some as-of-yet secret way, said Forbes.

The Into the Light update is adding a raid boss gauntlet that is called Pantheon as well as the new horde mode, Onslaught. The developers also noted that while they were playtesting Zero Hour with newer movement options such as Strand or Eagle Edge swords, these new tools did not break the original challenge.

In the initial version of Zero Hour, players had 20 minutes to complete the mission but the revamped mission gives a new 40-minute timer. On top of crafting new weapons after the two returning missions, players can earn a redux of the A Thousand Wings ship as well as a new ship for Zero Hour, according to Destructoid.
