'Dragon Age Inquisition' Box Art Revealed: The Fade and the Inquisitor Star in Moody Cover [IMAGE]

The Fade and the Inquisitor Star in Dragon Age Inquisition Box Art

It's fair to say the next Dragon Age title is hugely anticipated, especially for those who were disappointed by Dragon Age 2 and are looking to move on with the franchise. What we've been shown so far in screenshots and trailers looks fantastic, and we're now seeing what the official box art will look like for the first time.

The art for Dragon Age: Inquisition (full image below) pictures the player character, the Inquisitor, channeling magical powers from the Fade. If you're familiar with the series, you'll know the Fade as the separate dimension of magic and demons, a place you can visit in your dreams or access while awake through magic portals if you have the ability.

You may notice there is no clear depiction of the Inquisitor on the cover--you can't even tell whether or not the character is male or female.

This is intentional by Bioware, meant to reflect the customizability of the hero and the series' focus on allowing you to craft the story with your decisions and unique character. Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw confirmed this was a conscious decision when asked by a fan on Twitter.

"An uncertain gender was absolutely intended. It's whoever you want to roll, essentially," Laidlaw said.

It's interesting that the Fade is featured so prominently on the cover given the developers' most recent comments on its role in Dragon Age Inquisition. They stated the Fade would not play a major part, with only a couple of journeys to the Fade via optional portals that you can choose to close. Regardless, it makes for some pretty cool-looking box art and I can't wait to see more of the game. Dragon Age: Inquisition will be out on PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One and PC this fall.
