"Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" continues its remarkable momentum since it took home Game of the Year at The Game Awards, thanks to a generous free expansion titled the "Thank You" update. Rather than a light patch, it's a chunky update with significantly new content that appropriately rewards dedicated players with fresh challenges, customization options, and an entirely new area to explore.
Be it returning to the game or reaching the end of your journey, this update gives you plenty of reasons to dive back into "Expedition 33."
How to Start the 'Thank You' Update in 'Clair Obscur: Expedition 33'
There is also a lot of story progression to get to the new content, so this update is clearly for serious players rather than those looking to get started.
To unlock Verso's Draft, a new zone introduced in this update, two things have to be met first. You have to reach Act 3 of the main story, which puts you deep into the game's narrative arc. Second, you will have to unlock Esquie's underwater traversal ability by raising your relationship level with Esquie to level 6.
Once both conditions are met, go to the Continent map. Pan your camera down towards the bottom-right corner of the world map, and you'll notice that a new island has been added in the area southeast of Lumiere. This island will act as the entrance for Verso's Draft and officially start the content introduced by the "Thank You" update.
Exploring Verso's Draft and the New Challenges of Endgame
What will make Verso's Draft more than just a new location is that it's crafted as a high-end area that really puts players through their paces in terms of combat systems, builds, and strategy.
Encounters will be tougher, the environments will be layered, and there will be narrative elements throughout that help flesh out the game's lore in very subtle but meaningful ways.
More importantly, this zone also features fresh content centered around bosses that challenge experienced players to their limits.
New Boss Fights Within the Endless Tower
Among other things, it adds four challenging boss battles that are hidden within the paintings inside the Endless Tower. These fights are much harder than standard encounters and reward smart lumina combinations, precise timing, and a deep understanding of enemy mechanics.
The battles also feel purpose-built for players looking to put optimized builds to the test and experiment with new gear.
Photo Mode, Costumes, and Quality-of-Life Improvements
Beyond combat, the "Thank You" update introduces several long-requested features. A full photo mode lets players capture both the striking art style and dramatic moments of the game. New costumes add visual variety, while additional weapons and luminas expand build diversity.
According to Polygon, one of the best quality-of-life inclusions is the Lumina Sets that allow you to save and switch between Lumina loadouts on the fly. It greatly improves experimentation and reduces friction in menus.
It also adds the "Old Key" quest item to the final area of the game for the first time outside of the prologue.
New Music Adds to the Experience
Composer Lorien Testard adds to the update with new music tracks seamlessly meshing with the emotional tone of the game. Added soundtrack pieces elevate both exploration and boss encounters, reinforcing "Clair Obscur's" identity as a style-forward RPG.
The "Thank You" update feels precisely like the name suggests: a warm reward for those who supported "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," and a strong reason to return if you stepped away after finishing the story.
