Take-Two CEO Says ‘Roblox’ Generation Could Naturally Become Future ‘GTA’ Players

Younger gaming habits has opened questions about GTA’s future audience.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed an increasingly discussed topic within the gaming industry: whether younger players raised on platforms like "Roblox" will eventually transition toward mature franchises such as "Grand Theft Auto."

The earnings call discussion arrives as anticipation continues building for "GTA VI," while Gen Alpha and Gen Z increasingly shape new gaming trends that differ significantly from those of previous generations.

'Roblox' and Social Gaming Continue Dominating Younger Audiences

Many younger players now spend substantial time on social gaming platforms such as "Roblox" and "Fortnite." These platforms function not only as games but also as social spaces where users create content, interact with friends, and participate in virtual communities.

Unlike traditional premium game releases, these experiences typically use free-to-play models supported by optional in-game purchases, making them highly accessible to younger audiences.

Industry data from ESA suggests Gen Alpha already spends more time gaming than previous generations, with many actively making in-game purchases. However, their favorite titles often prioritize creativity, social interaction, and accessibility rather than cinematic storytelling or mature content.

Take-Two Believes Player Preferences Evolve With Age

Zelnick argued that gaming preferences naturally change over time as players mature. According to his comments, younger audiences often seek more complex and mature experiences during adolescence and adulthood.

He explained that M-rated franchises like "Grand Theft Auto" are built for older audiences and continue attracting players as entertainment preferences evolve beyond child-focused content.

From his perspective, continued engagement with interactive entertainment eventually leads many players toward more sophisticated gaming experiences.

Research Shows Possible Overlap Between Audiences

Interestingly, recent research also indicates that gaming interests among younger audiences may already overlap more than expected.

While "Roblox" and "Minecraft" remain highly popular, franchises like "Pokémon" and even "Grand Theft Auto" reportedly appear among games recognized by younger players.

According to Kotaku, some analysts suggest that social sandbox experiences could indirectly familiarize players with gameplay elements later seen in open-world titles such as "GTA Online."

Despite changing player behavior, Take-Two has reaffirmed that "Grand Theft Auto VI" remains scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
