'Sherlock Holmes: Crime & Punishments' E3 Trailer Puts You Inside The Mind Of Legendary Detective

You can't keep a good detective away from the spotlight for too long. Developer Frogwares has just released the E3 trailer for their upcoming seventh installment into their long running Sherlock Holmes franchise of mystery/adventure games, Crimes & Punishments.

The Stand Film Adaptation Moves Forward

The trailer is a puzzle box in and of itself, merely peaking at the seven mysteries players will be tasked with solving in the game. It also looks incredible. Crimes & Punishments will be the first Holmes game from Frogwares to run off the Unreal 3 engine. Early reports peg the game as a great improvement over its predecessors, with sources definitely feeling the influence of the BBC Sherlock series, in which Frogwares took inspiration from in redefining Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary detective.

The games allow you to get deep inside the mind of Holmes to solve the mysteries. The patented Sherlock Vision gives players the chance to see a crime scene as only Sherlock can. After all, there's no such thing as the perfect crime, and it is always the little details that will do the criminals in at the end. In addition to updating Holmes' look, he'll no longer feature his signature cap, the Frogwares team has crafted a more morally ambiguous adventure wherein players' choices will effect the outcome of the game and the interactions they have within it.

Hunt: Horrors Of The Gilded Age Delivers Victorian Era Nightmares

Though the music choice feels somewhat modern for the trailer, it's still an excellent showcase for what Frogwares has planned. Like a good Holmes' mystery, it draws you in with the scraps of clues it leaves you and asks you to join in on the fun.

If you pre-order on Steam, you'll receive The Testament of Sherlock Holmes, the game's predecessor, for free. Crimes & Punishments will be released sometime in September for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on Steam.
