'Star Fox' Wii U E3 2014: Miyamoto Working On New Title Set For Nintendo Direct Reveal [REPORT]

Report Says Miyamoto Working on Star Fox Wii U For E3 Reveal

The existence of a new Star Fox title for Wii U has been confirmed in an interview with legendary Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto.

We will almost certainly see the game today, when Nintendo broadcasts its digital E3 event, which it's holding in place of a traditional press conference. The report comes from Time Magazine, who have a picture of Miyamoto playing the title on Wii U.

According to Time, who have since removed the article, the title is one of Miyamoto's "secret projects", and is at least a year away from release. It will supposedly be a rethink of the series, something I don't think many would argue may be necessary.

A Star Fox game for Wii U isn't the most surprising, but the series isn't exactly predictable, either. Though seen as an iconic Nintendo franchise, especially following the Nintendo 64 version, there has not been a Star Fox title on consoles since Gamecube's 2005 title Star Fox Assault.

The DS and 3DS have each seen an entry since then (Star Fox Command and Star Fox 64 3D, a remake of the N64 title), but even those were 2006 and 2011 releases. The Wii may not have needed the sales boost that the Wii U does through a major franchise release, so we might see the game drive console sales alongside Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.

Stay tuned for news from Nintendo's E3 video, where we should see Star Fox for Wii U and other announcements.
