World Cup Predictions Colombia vs Uruguay: 'FIFA 14' Simulation Decides Winner Of Suarez-Free Elimination Match

FIFA 14 Simulation Predicts Result of Colombia vs Uruguay Following Luis Suarez Ban

The group stages have concluded in one of the most exciting and high-scoring World Cups ever held, and tomorrow fans around the globe will shift their attention to the first knockout round.

What Does FIFA 14 Predict For The Brazil vs Chile Match

As has been the case through the tournament, I have been simulating the fixtures using FIFA 14's World Cup mode, which is updated to reflect the form and performances of each squad. Tomorrow features the first two of many huge games, with Brazil facing off against Chile and Colombia taking on Uruguay.

I simulated the game between Brazil and Chile earlier, and moved on to the later Colombia vs Uruguay match. FIFA 14 had the game down as a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, but since we're no longer in the group stage, the match continued on to extra time and ended with penalties.

Colombia is going to come away with the win in the end, according to EA's engine, winning 5-4 in the shootout. James Rodriguez was the first to score in regulation, finishing inside the box 19 minutes in, but Uruguay tied the game through Diego Forlan in the second half. The penalty shootout saw two early Uruguay misses that ultimately sealed their fate, and it will be Colombia that moves on.

In the wake of Luis Suarez' bit controversy and long ban, I too would favor Colombia to advance. Even with Suarez, Uruguay was less convincing than its weekend opponents during the tournament, and without him it will be difficult to score.

My simulation featured two AI-controlled sides on Legendary difficulty facing off against one another, using the squads expected to start tomorrow's game. There may be one or two differences in the selections or the way the team lines up, but these were approximations that are as close to likely as possible. Tune in tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET to see how accurate FIFA 14's prediction is.
