'Call of Duty Advanced Warfare' Trailer Takes You Behind The Scenes Of Sound Design For Upcoming Future War FPS [VIDEO]

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Behind The Scenes Video Highlights The Game's Sound Design

The fine folks over at Sledgehammer Games are continuing their roll out of Behind The Scenes videos for their upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. A new trailer takes us into the mind of their audio director Don Veca as he talks about what it's like to create sound FX for a game like this.

QuakeCon 2014 Demands Blood!

Sound is one of the underrated things in all of moving entertainment, be it in movies, television or video games. Great audio is like housekeeping, nobody will notice it until you stop doing it. You never actively think about the sound in a game because you're not supposed to, it's one of the many threads in the fabric of the world. A game sounds good because a game is supposed to sound good. What we sometimes forget, especially in video games, is that every single element, every footstep to explosion, has to be created from scratch.

What Veca promises in Advanced Warfare is uniqueness. Sledgehammer is creating an intelligent sound, which "will monitor the outside world" and adjust for certain conditions. The way the sound effects are composed and rendered will mean that no two explosions or impact will sound the same.

Sound is 50 percent of the experience, though Academy Award winner Danny Boyle thinks it's 80%; it can make or break whatever you're trying to accomplish or create. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be a AAA title in all regards and as such, you better get your big speakers out and ready for it, it's definitely going to be an aural experience unlike any other.
