iPhone 6 Release Date Rumors: New Smartphone Will Launch September 19, 4.7-Inch Version Will Ship More Units Than 5.5-Inch Version

The iPhone 6 Will Release September 19 According To Rumors, With More Of The Smaller Units Available

The 4.7-inch model of the iPhone 6 will hit stores September 19, reported French site iGen. When the larger 5.5-inch model will arrive is not as certain.

If You Want To Watch Apple's Presentation Live, You Better Have An Apple Product

Apple's big reveal starts in less than 24 hours, so this rumor is a bit on the late side. Fortunately, it's from a reliable source, so it's still a solid addition to the rumor mill, even if it did take its sweet time getting here. iGen has proven itself before as a reliable source of iPhone release dates. The September 19 release date also conforms with Apple's pattern of releasing products two weeks after their announcements.

There's less certainty surrounding when the 5.5-inch model (sometimes referred to as the iPhone 6 Plus) will hit store shelves. MacRumors has published separate predictions that disagree over whether or not the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will ship alongside its 4.7-inch partner. Most sites agree, however, that this so-called iPhone 6 Plus will be shipping in lower quantities than the basic model. This could stem from reports earlier this year that the production line for the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 was temporarily held up.

Could We See Third-Party Apps Running On The iWatch At Apple's Big Reveal?

The production of the iPhone 6 has reportedly been interrupted multiple times because of design choices made to help make the phone slimmer. Early reports of the iPhone 6 have said that the new phone is noticeably thinner than the iPhone 5.

If we're lucky, all of these questions about the iPhone 6, the iPhone 6 Plus and possibly the yet-to-be-officially-named iWatch will only exist for another day. Hopefully, all will be revealed tomorrow at 1 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. PDT) when Apple's presentation kicks off.
