Way Of The Samurai 4 News: Play A Ronin On Steam This Year

Steam Ronins, Attention! Way Of The Samurai 4 Coming!

PlayStation gamers and samurai enthusiasts have been enjoying the plights of the ronin for four installments now, but this year will see the first ever PC port in the series from UK developer Ghostlight.

Dragon Age: Inquisition Co-Op Explained

The basic plot goes as follows (from the official Ghostlight blog): "This 4th entry is set in the mid-19th century, as Japan has begun to open its borders to the Western world. You'll play as a master-less samurai thrown into a three way conflict between the shogunate pro-governmental forces, the nationalistic isolationists, and the foreign powers who are heavily influenced by the British Navy."

Anyone who's ever read James Clavell's Shogun series about British traders in the East or followed Ruroni Kenshin should perk up at hearing of that setting! The Way Of The Samurai series has been quite stingy with its ports, with only Way Of The Samurai 3 ever having been ported outside of Sony's domain before this, to Xbox 360.

Although Ghostlight is usually an RPG dev, they feel like they've nailed the strengths of the series, namely: "an awesome dynamic combat system allowing the player to use a wide array of melee and gunpowder weapons to fight enemy samurai. But Way of the Samurai 4 isn't all about combat as it also offers a vast array of character customization options, weapons and equipment upgrades and a chance to learn a strange new language, English :-)."

We don't know any specific release date yet, but Ghostlight promises that it will happen before the end of the year. So samurai lovers, keep an eye on your Steam clients!
